This 30" x 24" acrylic on canvas was created as an automatic response to my first painting, The Stranger. While it moves away from the specific details of Camus's novel, it has echoes of literary classics like Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse, Elizabeth Bowen’s The Hotel, and Ian McEwan’s On Chesil Beach. In these stories, as in this painting, the ocean becomes a space of pleasure, and escape, but also emotional intensity.

The canvas is stretched on a very sturdy hand built frame, is signed, and has end to end wiring.
